Lucky the Canary is the mascot for the Southern Illinois Miners based in Marion, Illinois. The Miners are a member of the West Division of the independent Frontier League. Since 2007, the Miners have played their home games at Rent One Park.

Since joining the team in 2007 as the official mascot of the Southern Illinois Miners, Lucky has become one of the most well-known birds in the Midwest! During pregame warmups, you’re likely to find Lucky giving the other team a fun Southern Illinois greeting with his shenanigans. Often times you’ll see Lucky challenging opposing players to a “friendly” game of twister or offering yoga classes to them because who likes just regular stretching? Boring!

During the game itself, be on the lookout at all times! Lucky has been known to roam the stands with silly string and other silly props that could make things get messy fast. The stands aren’t the only place you can find Lucky during the game, Lucky has also been known to be sneaky and pull some pranks on umpire or players between innings!

A big part of baseball is the rivalries. The Miners have a few rivals they face every year, but did you know Lucky has a rival of his own? Grounder has been Lucky’s rival in dance battles for over eleven years now! Though Grounder usually comes out victorious, they both will always be BFF’s. Lucky and Grounder have been best friends ever since the Miners inaugural season back in 2007!

Rent One Park isn’t the only place you can find Lucky! Everyone’s favorite canary is always on the “fly” going to dozens of appearances a year. Lucky does everything from big appearances to small. You can often find Lucky on the “big stage” at your local parade or community cookout, you can also find Lucky at smaller events like after school programs or birthday parties.

Lucky loves both Southern Illinois and Miners baseball, however what Lucky loves the most is family! That’s right, the Lil’ Luckies! The Lil’ Luckies have been one of the biggest hits at Rent One Park for years now! Lil’ Luckies love to perform in front of big crowds and they cherish all the love Miners fans give them during the game! I mean, who doesn’t love those little birdies?!?
