The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes are located in Keizer, Oregon. They play in the Northwest League, and have been an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants since the Volcanoes' inception in 1997.

Crater lived in Mt. Mazama until 2,000 B.C. Mt. Mazama was north of Klamath Falls, or now Crater Lake. During a volcanic eruption, he was thrown to Mt. Hood in northern Oregon, He remained there until 958 A.D. when another eruption tossed him to Mt. St. Helens, in southwest Washington.

Crater was knocked unconscious. He slept until 1980 when M. St. Helens erupted. Hearing of a new Volcanoes eruption in Salem-Keizer, he thought “this could be my new home”. He found a beautiful new ballpark, and said “I am finally home. I am your mascot. You can call me Crater”.That was 22 years ago, and Crater is still beloved and entertaining thousands.

One of Crater's favorite Games with kids is Musical Therapy Balls & Race. This is like musical chairs, but adapted to our sponsor, PT Northwest Physical Therapy. Crater always tries to get to the ball before the child when the music stops. The race is from 1st to third. Crater races a child, and in twenty-two years, Crater has never won. This is done about six times a year.

Crater has a great sense of humor. To him, being Crater feels like being an 8-year old kid.
Crater attends many Charity Events like; Patriotic Night, Little League Opening Days, Randall’s Children’s Hospital and Mascots for the Cure. He enjoys working with the kids; “That’s what is all about.” Crater says.
